A couple short weeks ago, we let you know that Sony had announced that they were shipping the Xperia S globally, but nothing specific was confirmed for Canada. Now, Sony has come forward with a press release stating that the Android device will be available on April 17th in limited quantities, exclusively from the Sony Store. As for pricing and carrier availability, they make mention that it is compatible with the Rogers network, and later stated that it would be available for $99.99 on a 3 year term through Rogers. Whether Sony will later allow Rogers to sell the handset or not hasn’t been revealed as of yet, and no mention of other carriers seeing the device in the future was made either.

The Sony Xperia S features a 4.3” (1280 x 720) Reality Display with the Mobile BRAVIA Engine, and is powered by a dual-core 1.5 GHz processor. It comes with a 12 MP rear-facing camera with Sony Exmor R for mobile technology, which is capable or recording 1080p video. It also has a front-facing camera capable of 720p video capture, and offers up NFC connectivity, along with the regular connectivity support such as HSPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. It will launch running Android 2.3 Gingerbread, however it’s apparently set for an ICS upgrade in the coming months.
